Yesterday was the December 1st which means that it was the first day of this winter when winter tires are mandatory. Usually all interesting cars have gone hibernating before such season begins as Finnish winter will bring plenty of salt on the roads. I still saw two quite unusual cars on my way to work.
The first spotting was a pristine looking white Dodge Aspen wagon. Aspen was fairly common here at some point but now you don’t see them anymore especially wagons. I couldn’t get a picture or even hear if it had slant six or V8.
Just before I arrived to work I saw the second weird car. I’m pretty sure that I have seen one or two of these over the years but not this one. It was a Chrysler (Shelby) GS Turbo 2. I think it was sold in US as Dodge Daytona Shelby Z but it was badge engineered for Europe. It was wearing studded tires and a lot of dirt so it seems be familiar with winter seasons.

And the driver clearly has no idea how to park. I don’t remember if these had a chin spoiler to redirect air over the radiator, but if it did, it doesn’t now.
I’ve heard people who park like this complain that there is no room to walk on the sidewalk. I wonder why....

The whole parking lot is in chaos as they are building a subway station near it. So it is surrounded by big number of separate construction yards in where the workers don’t care anything about appearance. Currently everything near this place looks like crap.
I think the guy has parked as near as the curb as he can to get away from the possible contact with the construction equipment.
The curb is actually quite low so the possible chin spoiler should have survived the parking.

OOOH. Minus the dirt she looks pretty good. Love me some intercooled 2.2lt turbo fun! It warms my heart to see this still out there kicking about.

My first car was a ’91 Dodge Daytona (3.0 V6), so I have a special fondness for these. I think the design holds up well, albeit a very ’90s aesthetic. Not sure I’ve ever seen the Shelby version though. And to see any on the road any more is certainly a rarity.

Was it a nice car?
When I was a kid I had a Matchbox toy of the earlier Daytona (with the “Camaro front end”). It was one of my favorites. It still have it somewhere but it isn’t in this nice condition anymore.

You are being generous. I see cars parked like this all the time with their nose on the sidewalk and their chin spoilers all askew.
It’s a thing .

It was my first car, and I started working at 15 to pay for it, so I thought it was great. The seats were really comfortable, and the V6 felt like a decent amount of power (at least not slow). But the transmission went out on it, and there were other reliability issues, so I sold it after three years. But it was “Bonsai Blue” if I recall, and I upgraded all the speakers to JBLs, so I sure was proud of it at the time.
